The safety position is as wide open as it has ever been as the Texans have brought back none of the regular contributors from 2014. After deciding against re-signing Kendrick Lewis or Danieal Manning, the team brought in Rahim Moore and Stevie Brown, who are the projected starters.

After these moves were all made, the Texans cut their second round pick from 2013, D.J. Swearinger, which shows that if he was not guaranteed any playing time, Moore and Brown will have to earn their roles on the team.

A player who can step up and try to steal some of that playing time could be the undrafted rookie out of Michigan State, Kurtis Drummond. At one point Drummond looked to be a mid-round selection, but due to being considered a weak tackler, he slipped out of the draft.

His ball skills and the fact he played for a strong defensive team in college could help Drummond push for playing time, and my money is on him to make the final 53-man roster. He is a player to watch in preseason to see if he is able to earn a significant role beyond simply making the team.
