Cecil Shorts III 6′, 202 Pounds, 27 Years Old
The Texans made a savvy move to bring in Cecil Shorts III from the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason. What he can provide is a smart receiver to take some attention off Hopkins.
Some Background Info;
The pride of the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders, Shorts was a fourth round pick of the Jaguars in 2011 and he has showed flashes of being a very solid player in the NFL. In his three seasons in Jacksonville he finished with 176 catches for 2,343 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In his second year he broke out with 55 catches for 979 yards (an average of 17.8 yards per catch) and seven touchdowns. However, injuries have limited him in his two seasons following, although he still netted 66 catches in 2013 and 53 in 2014.
What To Expect This Year;
Look for Shorts to battle for the number two wide out spot, and at absolute worst wind up being the slot receiver. Either way Shorts will be on the field a lot for Houston (barring more injuries which have cost him eight games in three years).
I expect him to stay consistent with a catch range in the 50’s for the Texans and to provide some smart veteran leadership for a fairly young group.
