Round 6: (B-) DT Christian Covington

School: Rice University

The Texans have drafted three defensive tackles in the sixth round in their 13 franchise history and this year it appears they want to give it another go with Christian Covington.

Covington, unlike his predecessors, will have the opportunity to learn from J.J. Watt this offseason. Hopefully he’ll use the tips he uncovers from the pro bowler to seal a long term deal with Houston by the time August rolls around.

Covington is coming off of missing an entire year of football due to a knee injury but has shown signs of NFL caliber talent previously in 2013. If there’s a defense in the NFL that can help him play up to his potential on the professional level, it’s the defensive leadership of the Houston Texans.
