Round 6, 35th Pick: Ty Montgomery, WR

At pick no. 35 Houston would be wise to pick up another wide receiver as an experiment in the offseason. Stanford alumni, Ty Montgomery fits that description.

With Dorial Green-Beckham selected in the first round, Rick Smith will be forced to address other needs on the team than the wide receiver corpse. That’s why using the second of three picks in this round on another wideout makes sense.

Montgomery has been compared to Cordarrelle Patterson, whom the Texans were expected to make a move for earlier this year in free agency anyway. The Vikings appeared to be unwilling in any way to consider Patterson leaving their camp for another team.

This brings us to choosing someone late in the draft who has the Patterson ability to be dynamic and flip games on their heads in just a few plays.

Ty Montgomery could be really intriguing to watch compete for a roster spot during the preseason games. He’ll be even more interesting to watch when matched up with either quarterbacks Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer, both of whom are looking to blow Houston’s front office’s socks off with their passing capability.

We must see this pick happen, it just feels right.
