Although their splashiest move in free agency so far may have been releasing their longtime superstar wide recevier, the Houston Texans have undoubtedly been active. But have their moves appeased their loyal fan base?
Prior to the opening of the NFL’s free agent market last week, the Texans began the process of re-signing some of their own. Key players like young cornerback Kareem Jackson and offensive tackle Derek Newton were signed to new deals. While aging veterans like wide recevier Andre Johnson and center Chris Myers were handed their walking papers.
Once the opening bell of free agency was rung, the Texans focused on their biggest need: quarterback. Last season’s starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was traded to the New York Jets, and free agent quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer were signed in his place.
With the departure of longtime Texans’ fixture Andre Johnson, the team responded by signing quality veteran wide recevier Cecil Shorts III. Houston also signed veteran safety Rahim Moore to replace Kendrick Lewis in their defensive backfield, who was lost in free agency.
Maybe the Texans’ biggest addition in free agency so far, both literally and figuratively, is defensive tackle Vince Wilfork. Last year’s NFL defensive MVP, Houston defensive end J.J. Watt, reacted to the signing of the longtime New England Patriots’ defensive anchor with four simple characters.
Now that the initial rush of free agency has passed, do you approve of the additions that the Houston Texans have made so far?
