Dan Williams, Nose Tackle, Arizona Cardinals

Dan Williams is 27 years old and about to enter his fifth season in the NFL. The 6’2” 327 pounder out of Tennessee was picked near the end of the first round of the 2010 NFL draft and is the unsung workhorse of the Cardinals defensive line.

A 3-4 defense in the desert sees all the attention and praise going to defensive ends Darnell Dockett and Calais Campbell. This seems to be the norm for nose tackles as their job is to take on blocks and free things up for the playmakers on defense. Still, Williams notched 155 tackles, 2 sacks and an interception in his four seasons with the red birds.

The one sticking point, which may prevent bringing Williams to the Texans, is the report that he wants something in the range of $6 million per season. We all know though, that just because that is what a player wants, doesn’t mean that is what he will get. That price is high for a player who usually is off the field for pass rushing downs.

The Texans would be wise to keep an eye on his progress in the offseason, and if Williams price dips, he would be worth a serious look as an upgrade to the nose tackle spot.
