Who Will Be The Houston Texans 2015 Starting Quarterback?

It’s certainly the biggest question facing the Houston Texans this offseason. Who will be the Texans’ starting quarterback when the 2015 NFL regular season starts?

The early fan favorite appears to be fifth-year quarterback Ryan Mallett. Unfortunately, Mallett is currently a free agent.

Last year’s starting quarterback during the seasons’ debut, Ryan Fitzpatrick, is under contract for one more year. But the 32-year old was benched midway through the season for Mallett.

Fitzpatrick returned to the starting lineup in Week 13 to throw an astonishing 358 yards and six touchdowns in a blowout win over the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, he broke his leg two weeks later, ending his season prematurely.

The Texans’ fourth round pick, Pitt quarterback Tom Savage, appeared in just two games in his rookie campaign and was simply not ready to compete on the pro level yet.

Second-year quarterback Case Keenum was released by the Texans during final cuts in the preseason only to be picked back up by Houston prior to Week 15 off of the St. Louis Rams practice squad.

The former undrafted rookie out of Houston led the Texans to their final two wins recording 435 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in that span.

The only other quarterback on Houston’s roster is Thad Lewis, who was signed along with Keenum as insurance for the final two weeks of the regular season. But Lewis ended up seeing no action in 2014.

Now, let’s circle back to the most important question: Who will be the Texans’ starting quarterback in 2015? Is that player on Houston’s current roster? Or will the Texans need to find their franchise quarterback in free agency, the NFL Draft or via a trade?
