Game day is FINALLY here and with that said, we have a new era of Houston Texans football as they are set to host the Washington Redskins, who are also beginning a new era for their franchise.
Both teams have a new head coach with the Texans hiring Bill O’Brien and the Redskins hiring Jay Gruden this offseason. O’Brien was the head coach at Penn State the past two seasons, plus a former offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots. Gruden was the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Here is a fun fact about the two … they both are making their NFL debut as a head coach, so barring a tie, one rookie NFL head coach will gain their first win of their career at the conclusion of this game.
The Texans on Sunday morning (8 a.m. ET) are still a three-point favorite over the visiting Redskins by bovada.lv, which I believe is a fair line, because this will be a very closely played game.

In fact, here is my game day prediction for this contest:
Texans 17, Redskins 14: The Texans are going to have low scores on offense this season (at least early on), but I believe their pass rush on defense can really help them keep their opponents at bay.
Besides J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans defensive player to watch is Brian Cushing at inside linebacker.
I worry about the defensive backs of the Texans against the Redskins wide receivers. The one receiver I especially worry about is DeSean Jackson who the Redskins signed this offseason. Jackson has played his entire career before this season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Should be a fun day of football. Enjoy!
