It become official on Wednesday that the No. 1 overall draft pick of the 2014 NFL Draft will also be starting for the Houston Texans this Sunday vs. the Washington Redskins.
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien confirmed that Jadevevon Clowney will be one of the starting four linebackers when the Texans take the field against the Redskins.
When asked about his linebackers on Wednesday, O’Brien said:
"“When we put the 3-4 (defense) out there we’ll probably go with Brian Cushing on the inside, Clowney and Brooks Reed on the outside and we’ll see how it goes at the other inside spot.”"
This preseason in limited action (parts of two games), Clowney collected three tackles and one sack. Clowney didn’t play in the final two preseason games.
This is exciting news (Clowney starting) as the defense we all imagined is finally starting to become a reality. What I’m looking forward to seeing is how well the Texans defense can function with Clowney and J.J Watt (the best defensive player in the NFL) when on the same of the field in pursuit of the QB on a consistent basis.
Clowney was listed as a defensive end in college at South Carolina.

How will teams stop this new dynamic duo when they are rushing the QB on the same side of the field? They won’t be Batman and Robin … it is more like Batman and Batman with their abilities to rush the QB and disrupt an offense.
One player who could really benefit from those two is Cushing at inside linebacker.
This defense will be very interesting to watch and it will only get better as the season takes shape.
