Finally the preseason finale has arrived for the Houston Texans and the rest of the NFL, with this Thursday night contest as the Texans host the San Francisco 49ers at NGR Stadium.
The Texans are 2-1 this preseason and how shown some improvement since their preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals where they didn’t score a single point.
Since then, their play has improved somewhat against the Atlanta Falcons and the Denver Broncos in recent weeks. They defeated the Broncos 18-17 last week.
Last season, the Texans were the worst team in the entire NFL with a 2-14 overall record.
In looking at this preseason finale the Texans have a decision to make for their backup quarterback position with Case Keenum starting the game against the 49ers, with fourth round rookie Tom Savage being the backup this game.
The regular starting quarterback for the Texans for the start of the season is Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Texans will host the Washington Redskins on Sept. 7 to open the regular season.

This preseason game, though won’t have many regular starters involved (if any) is still a good way for fans and the team to see what the depth of this team will be like, because the depth at certain positions last season was a problem.
As for the 49ers, they played in the NFC Championship game last season, and two seasons ago were the NFC Champions. They are 1-2 in the ’14 preseason.
Last season on Oct. 6 the 49ers defeated the Texans, 34-3.
