The Houston Texans have announced that Case Keenum will be the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans in their preseason finale when they host the San Francisco 49ers this Thursday.

Here is a tweet from Houston Chronicle Texans reporter Brian T. Smith:

Keenum started eight games for the Texans last season, missing the final two games of the year with an injured thumb. This preseason he has taken second string snaps at QB.

Currently the starting QB for the Texans is Ryan Fitzpatrick, who the Texans signed this offseason.

I think this start by Keenum is more for his backup battle with Tom Savage rather than his battle for the starting job.

If it were my decision the preseason would have been for a starting QB battle between Fitzpatrick and Keenum, but it wasn’t.

It will also be interesting to see how Tom Savage does in the finale against the scheme of the 49ers’ defense, though most likely he won’t be facing top competition.

Here is another tweet from Smith about the Texans QB spots:

So at least it looks as though the QB jobs of Keenum and Savage are save in the reserve role, but now the decision will be made who will be the official backup to Fitzpatrick.

Who would you select and why?
