This edition’s 2014 seven-round Houston Texans mock draft came from using the simulator from Fanspeak.com.

This was used as Toro Times editor Stephen Forsha picked all 11 picks as the Houston Texans, while the simulator selected the remainder of the draft for the other 31 NFL teams.

The rankings of the mock draft were from Walter Football.

There were some surprises, starting with the Texans setting the mood with the No. 1 overall selection being South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The Texans decided it was worth the risk of drafting Clowney No. 1 overall, even with reports that Clowney was “spoiled”  and “lazy,” from unnamed NFL sources.

Now it is time to see what the J.J. Watt and Clowney defensive end duo under defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel can achieve.

Now here is a surprise.

Following the first 32 selections in the NFL Draft, the Texans had Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel looking at them straight in the face at the start of Day 2 of the mock draft.

This, I don’t believe will ever happen, but some draft experts have Manziel not being drafted in the first round of the upcoming May 8 NFL Draft.

If this were to happen, the Texans better, and did in this mock draft, select Manziel at No. 33 overall, the first pick of the second round.

At the start of round three, the brain had to start thinking as the 65th pick snuck up and the choice at the top of the third round for the Texans ended up being Florida State safety Terrence Brooks at selection No. 65.

Now it was time for Day 3 of the draft, and the Texans at pick No. 101 (to start the fourth round) went back to offense with Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey, as they need a “Plan B” or “Plan C” in case Arian Foster is injured again this season, as the Texans didn’t re-sign Ben Tate this offseason.

The fourth round also saw the Texans make another, as they returned to defense at pick No. 135 by taking defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles of South Carolina.

In round five, pick No. 141, Houston selected offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson from Miami.

To start round six, the Texans filled a void in depth at wide receiver, taking Oregon wide receiver Josh Huff at pick No. 177.

Also in the sixth round, the pick the Texans received for Matt Schaub, Houston went with a cornerback from Purdue, Ricardo Allen (pick No. 181)

In total, the Texans had three picks in the sixth round, as they took Prince Shembo, an outside linebacker from Notre Dame (pick No. 211).

The seventh and final round saw the Texans select tight end A.C. Leonard (pick No. 216) from Tennessee State and Penn State inside linebacker Glenn Carson at No. 256.
