On Tuesday, the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers worked out Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, according to tweets from Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Here are a series of tweets by Biggs:

Biggs also wrote in his Chicago Tribune article about the workout at Northwestern:

"“49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Texans coach Bill O’Brien were on hand, along with Minnesota Vikings college scouting director Scott Studwell and Tennessee Titans national scout Tim Ruskell.”"

This would make a lot of sense for the Texans if they are either going to trade their No. 1 overall selection in the draft or possibly draft defensive with the No. 1 overall selection and go after a quarterback in the second round, which honestly, I don’t have a problem with.

Garoppolo, in his final collegiate game in the Division I Football Championship Quarterfinal against Towson (which Eastern Illinois lost 49-39), he went 38-of-50 for 321 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

For his senior season, Garoppolo (6-3, 222 pounds) went 375-of-568 for 5,050 yards with 53 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 62 yards and four touchdowns.

It would make sense for the Texans to possibly build up their defensive line into one of the most dominant defensive lines in the league if they can possibly draft Jadeveon Clowney to play opposite of J.J. Watt as their two defensive ends.

O’Brien has proven when he was the head coach at Penn State that he can turn a QB’s career around in a hurry as he did in Matt McGloin‘s senior year. McGloin eventually became the starting QB for the Oakland Raiders last season.

It will be interesting to see exactly what the Texans are up to in the coming weeks as the draft nears.
