We are another day closer to the NFL Draft, but it seems we are just as far away as we were at the end of the season in trying to figure out who the Houston Texans will select with the No. 1 overall draft pick.
Let’s say for arguments sake the Texans skip drafting a QB in the first round, and select defense with the No. 1 overall selection. The Houston Chronicle’s Ultimate Texans blog has provided us with a slideshow of all the free agent QBs.
Click here to see who they are.
One of the QBs on the list is Josh McCown who last played for the Chicago Bears. I liked what I saw from him last season. Do I feel he can solve all of the Texans’ problems … no.
But if the 34-year old were to sign a one-year deal with the team as an insurance policy for next season, I wouldn’t see the harm in looking at him for his veteran presence, while the Texans groom their QB of the future.
• In their series of potential “breakout players” for the 2014 season, CSN Houston today looks at cornerback Brandon Harris.
In their outlook for Harris in 2014, the article states:
"“The reason the outlook is good for Harris is because McCain had such a bad 2013 season. It’s hard to think that if McCain is on the team and starts the 2014 season as badly as he played last year that Harris wouldn’t replace him.”"
The Texans really need someone in their defensive backfield to step up next season, or it will be more of what we witnessed in 2013 during the 2014 season.
