(The Toro Times will preview every college football bowl game, taking a look at the potential prospects in the bowl games that could be drafted by the Houston Texans in the May 2014 NFL Draft.)

The 2014 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl will be played on Saturday, Dec. 21 in Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.

The game features No. 20 Fresno State (11-1, 7-1 Mountain West Conference) and No. 25 USC (9-4, 6-3, Pac-12).

Here is the Toro Times preview for the New Mexico Bowl.

As for this game, how could it eventually affect the Houston Texans, you might ask? For starters, this game features nine Fresno State players listed on the CBS Sports Draft Board and 10 players from USC.

The main player I want to see in this game from Fresno State is quarterback Derek Carr, the brother of former No. 1 overall pick David Carr, whom the Texans selected in 2002 with the No. 1 overall pick.

Carr is ranked as the No. 2 overall quarterback in the draft, as he’s being projected to be drafted fourth overall by the Minnesota Vikings or sixth overall by the Jacksonville in his projections on his CBS Draft page.

The senior QB has been timed with a 4.78 40-yard dash, and from what I’ve seen in video interviews and his play on the field, he’s a very mature kid for his age. Having the spotlight on him, he seems very levelheaded.

Carr is the 10th overall rated prospect in the entire draft by CBS.

On Dec. 10, he was selected as the 2013 Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Carr is my MUST-watch player in this game, as his play in this game will go a very long way in his draft stock.

Here is a fun stat from his CBS Draft Page:

"“Set a new MW record with 306 consecutive pass attempts without an interception from Oct. 5-Nov. 29, 2013 and also had 180-straight passes without throwing a pick from Aug. 29-Sept. 28, 2013.”"
