As the regular reason draws to a close, the playoff bracket begins to form and the NFL Draft begins to inch closer. As we get closer to the draft, the more accurate the mock draft will be, however it’s always speculation. Last weeks pick was wide receiver Tavon Austin from West Virginia. This week we have Defensive Tackle, Sheldon Richardson, Missouri.
The Texans have been in need of a nose tackle, and starter Shaun Cody’s contract expires this year. Cody hasn’t had great production these past 2 years, and fellow tackle Earl Mitchell has been better. However, Mitchell’s contract expires in 2013. Mitchell will most likely be resigned as part of the rotation.
Enter Richardson, who was a top recruit going into college. Richardson is an athletic tackle that is active on the line as well as having experience dropping into coverage. This versatility is attractive to teams like the Texans who have an athletic front seven which the defense relies on. However, he’s only had one productive year, has had academic issues, and a past shoulder injury. Barring any setbacks leading up to the draft, the Texans might take a chance on him late in the first round.
