Who is Houston Texans 4th Round Pick Rashad “Roc” Carmichael?

So who is the Houston Texans 4th round pick from Virginia Tech? Rashad “Roc” Carmichael is considered a bit undersized, for an NFL cornerback, standing at 5’11″ and weighing in at 186lbs. What Carmichael seems to lack in size, he seems to make up in heart and dedication to the craft he has prepared for all his life.

“Roc”, the nickname he was giving at a young age due to his passion for tossing around just about anything especially rocks. Carmichael was the leader of a Virginia Tech secondary that ranked second in the country in total interceptions. But for now a current NFL lockout is putting Carmichael’s Houston Texans career on hold.

The Texans described cornerback Roc Carmichael as “Very high Character” after drafting him in the fourth round out of Virginia Tech a few weeks ago. It’s easy to see why when you read Don Peterson’s profile piece on Carmichael in the Washington Post.

So Texans fans click on the link above and find out a little about one of the teams newest cornerbacks. Carmichael could very easily push for some playing time in some form this year once the NFL lockout is lifted and he is able to get to work. With his heart and excellent work-ethic he could at the very least contribute on special teams and could definitely fall right into nickel situations in Wade Phillips new defense.

Expect Carmichael and Brondon Harris to push either other and thrive in the competitive environment that they establish around the secondary once training camp gets going…if in fact it ever does. We can only hope!
