Training Camp Closing In

The Houston Texans are closing in on the start of their training camp.  At the end of July, we can officially put the off-season behind us and move into the real questions surrounding the team.  Mini-camp flashes will be met with the harsh reality of full contact physical encounters and we will get a look at the progressions of our QB’s and Wr’s.

Ahhhhh, the start of a new year.

Last year the Texans came up one game short of making the playoffs.  In fact, it was only tie breaking procedures that kept the club out of their first post-season experience as they finished tied with the Jets and the Baltimore Ravens.  All 3 teams finished 9-7.

This season, the Texans will face the scrutiny of the fans as they look to improve on their best franchise record in their young history.  But that will not be easy.  9-7 brings tougher opponents and the pressure to improve to double digit wins.

The 2010 season will rest on the shoulders of the defense.  A strong defense will allow the youthful offense to stay in games and then explode with Andre’ Johnson.

But for fans, the real question will be the performance of 7 year QB Matt Schaub.  Can he take the next step to becoming an NFL QB instead of a back-up playing a starters roll?  Schaub’s season last year was good, but it needs to be more than that if the team wants to play games in January.

All of these questions will begin seeing answers when the Texans take to the practice field late next month.  Stay tuned!
