2009 Draft Wrap Up

The 2009 Draft has come and gone and it looks like this one will fall in line with what we have come to expect from Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak and that is a very strong Houston Texans draft class.

There was little suspense when the Texans selected USC LB Brian Cushing with the 15th pick as many have been specualting this move for over a month.  New Texans DC Frank Bush says that Cushing was the pick all along.

There is a lot to like about the Texans second draft pick, DE Connor Barwin out of Cincinnati, including but not limited to his non-stop motor, freakish athleticism, and versatility.

According to Mel Kiper, the Texans brought in one of the five best classes in the entire league.

If it seemed to you that this year’s draft lacked the excitement of previous years, it propose to you a theory:  we are not depending on the draft to save our season anymore.  We excited about what we have, but we also know that we will be hella-competitive regardless of the outcome of our draft.  Any production we get out of the 2009 class will be icing on the cake.

Given their track record I have the utmost confidence in Smith and Kubiak’s ability to evaluate talent.  Time will tell just how fruitful this class will turn out to be, but I am already excited about the potential in our picks.  September seems like forever away.  More than ever before, I just can’t wait.
