Like playing Texas hold’em

The Houston Texans have a young team that works in mysterious ways. A look at the numbers in 2007 shows that somehow the team won eight games despite having a porous defense. The team simply has weapons that come in handy. Watching the Texans win is like watching a bar fight. It is confusing, no not nearly as glamorous as the fights in the movies, and end in the most unpredictable ways.

Matt Schaub has his moments under center. He weapons in Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter and occasionally the coaching staff looks very good in letting him start. He is much better when he gets time in the pocket, but the offensive line is just ass spotty as he is and that is not always possible. Over the course of the NFL season eventually the line and Schaub decide to come to play. Then Texans tickets are well worth their cost.

Andre Johnson is an incredible receiver that has suffered under a myriad of quarterback controversy in Houston. The Texans are just like the Houston Astros or the Houston Rockets. They always have the potential to be a good, dangerous team. That kind of sports culture is why Houston sports fans so often are blamed for living in the past. We never know when a team is actually going to be good as advertised.

Nobody at Reliant Stadium every thought the Ahman Green was a solution to the running game. He was just supposed to be a place holder. It turns out he was supposed to be a place holder for Steve Slaton. The back may be small in stature but he can find the crevices and barrel his way through where he needs to get.

Things would be easier in Houston if we only knew what was up with the defense. Defensive end Mario Williams and line backer DeMeco Ryans are tremendous players. Amobi Okoye only is a good tackle and Fred Bennett is a solid corner. The team is almost there and really should play much better defense than they do. The talent is there, so Texans just need somebody who can work with it to give the club and fans a shot at playoff tickets.
