With two preseason games in the books we look at which players are making their mark for the Houston Texans in our rising stock series

Saturday’s game for the Houston Texans was a defensive beatdown. They held the New Orleans Saints to just nine points and did enough to come away with a 16-9 victory. Several players stood out during the contest, and here are five guys who are seeing their stock rise.

5. Christian Covington, DE

Defensive end Christian Covington made a great play to force a fumble in Week 1, but was quiet after that. He struggled to get pressure and beat his blockers for the majority of the game.

On Saturday he made up for that big time. Covington was in the backfield regularly for Houston and harassed not just the quarterback, but the Saints running backs as well.

The sixth-round pick from 2015 finished with three tackles, a sack, and one other tackle for a loss when he blew up a run play.

With Jared Crick heading to the Denver Broncos in the offseason, his former starting spot at defensive end opposite J.J. Watt was open for the taking. After the game against the San Francisco 49ers last week there didn’t seem to be a clear cut leader for the job.

This is no longer the case thanks to the growth Covington showed from just a week ago. The kid from Rice may prove to be quite a steal from last year’s draft.
