An avalanche of Texans buried the Titans 21-45 today at NRG stadium. Ryan Fitzpatrick was a new man playing against his former team as he resumed duties as the Texans quarterback. Fitzpatrick put up some serious numbers against the Titans; 24/33 for 358 yards, an average of 10.8 yards, 6 touchdowns with no interceptions or sacks a QBR of 147.5. If there was a better player out on that field, please point him out to me. J.J. Watt, local resident demi-god who is playing at a level beyond such simple labels as “player” scored a touchdown from Fitzpatrick on a play he started out lined up as fullback. This gave hope to fans he’d round out his skills with a rushing touchdown, instead he went in motion and slipped out in to the flat and had a nice break for the sideline for a perfect catch. Watt also recovered a fumble and I believe for this first time this season was tackled while running. Just for fun Watt got in 3 sacks, a tackle for a loss and 6 hits on the quarterback including one that knocked Zac Metternberger out of the game with a shoulder injury.

The Texans also extended their “we don’t let you make bad passes” interception total by 3. It was an amazing day of football as the Texans set a franchise high water mark for points scored with 45. All in all, it was a good day for the Texans to regroup, we even saw Tom Savage take to the field, however he was merely left handing the ball off and we did not get to see any passes from the 4th round draft pick as he was out there in mop up duty. Offensively one name stands out. DeAndre Hopkins who almost single handily decimated the Titans. Targeted 9 times he had 2 touchdowns, 238 yards for an average of 26.4 yards per catch. Those numbers are almost incomprehensible. For a 6-6 team, the Texans played the powerhouse for a day an it was glorious.

The Texans maintain a slim chance of making a playoff berth. That would require the implosion of the Browns, Ravens, Steelers and Colts to achieve, but it’s still possible. Today was the greatest game of Texans football, and they have their next match up against the almost hapless Jaguars who pulled an upset win over the Giants today. Houston will travel to south Florida to keep their post season hopes alive for one more game.
