The Texans have a new rising talent, his name is Alfred Blue. A product of the LSU Tigers, this young man has overcome some great personal struggles and season ending knee injury his junior year to emerge as the Texans answer to “what do we do when Arian Foster can’t play?” He’s a very talented young man with a lot of heart and a great appreciation for the opportunity he has in Houston. This Louisiana native will have plenty of family support when the Texans are at NRG Stadium. With Foster out, Blue is in and ready to show he can take the responsibility.

My office has a fantasy league going, and when I took Blue the first question I was asked was “what do you know that we don’t?” Well, I know that the kid flashed a lot of promise in the preseason and running backs who have had back and leg issues tend to be less reliable after surgery. This meant Blue would get some play this season, even if it was more of a give Foster a break then starting he’d surprise a lot of folks.

As a sixth round draft pick, I thought this was a steal for the Texans. Blue took a hit in the draft standing because of his season ending knee injury. Fine, that means a lot of teams around going to be saying “man, we dropped the ball on that guy”. Bad for them, good for us. Over three games now Blue has had 25 carries, a long of 46 against the Giants and is averaging 4.7. Can you ask more from a rookie thrust into a starting role? I think not. With the coaching around him, the mentoring by one of the best running backs these last few years and his own inner drive, expect good things from Alfred Blue for years to come.
