The Houston Texans need some help at the wide receiver position and there is one guy in particular they should target.
The Houston Texans receiving corps this year is awfully weak. You take a look at the options that Davis Mills will have, and it makes you question what kind of year he could have. Now, am I saying that because Mills is a bad quarterback? No. That’s not at all what I’m saying. What I am saying is that when you look around the league to the best offenses in the game, how many of them compare with our current offense? Not many.
Looking at the Cincinnati Bengals roster, they were arguably the best offense this past season, but they had the weapons to make it happen. Between a run game that had Joe Mixon and a passing game that had Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, there isn’t a lot that could go wrong. Same thing goes for a team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two top 20 receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and for a majority of the season, they also had Antonio Brown. And in the run game, they had Leonard Fournette who dominated on the ground last season.
Now we look at the Texans roster, and although there is hope for them, they aren’t there yet. They don’t have the same talent that teams that compete do. But more than that, they don’t have the depth. That’s why I’m here today.
The Texans may not have the depth to make their roster one to be feared, but they could look to use their draft capital to improve their team.

Could The Texans Trade For Denzel Mims?
The Houston Texans receiving corps, as it sits, will have Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins, Phillip Dorsett, Tyler Johnson, and Chris Moore. Now, if you ask me, that could be a bit better, no? I feel it could be. And that’s why I’m writing this article.
Now, here’s the thing you need to know about me- I don’t believe players are ever truly busts. I think that scheme, coaching, and playing time play heavily into that. Unfortunately, the Jets made sure that Mims didn’t see much time on the field. Now, because of that, I feel Mims can be a true asset for this team moving forward.
Back in college, Mims was a true wideout. He dominated the Big 12 with his elite route running, phenomenal hands, and quick bursts of speed to create seperation. However, since getting drafted, everything that once made him special has seemed to disappear. Now, maybe the competition is truly that much better in the NFL, but I don’t think that’s the case. I still feel Mims can be a very solid option for any team willing to take a chance on him.
If the Texans make a trade to acquire the receiver, they’d get their wide receiver two that could complement Collins and Cooks.
Cooks more than likely would play primarily in the slot which is okay with me because part of what makes him so good is his versatility. Collins on the other hand, he needs to be on the outside. Be the option down the field when Mills needs to take a chance. And then there is Mims.
Mims would line up on the other side of the field and be an option for Mills on the intermediate routes. The dig routes, the post routes, the corner routes, those are the types of routes that made him so good in college. He was able to build up speed for those 10 yards and then make a cut on a dime.
I’d love to see what Mims would do in an offense that is young and growing. I think he could be a great acquisition for the Texans.
