The Houston Texans are making moves on the weekend before the 2022 NFL Season.

Remember how bad the Houston Texans’ offensive line was last season? The handful of games where the offensive line gave up four sacks or more? It seems that Nick Caserio is done with that, as the team is signing a former first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Cedric Ogbuehi is coming home to his home state of Texas. Ogbuehi was a Texas A&M product and has bounced around the league a little bit. We’ll see what Ogbuehi can do for a Texans’ offensive line that ranked 9th in terms of most sacks allowed. To give that some perspective, the team that was one spot ahead of them was the Seattle Seahawks.

Things really took a turn for the worse when Laremy Tunsil went down with a thumb injury that required surgery and sidelined him for weeks.

What does this signing mean for Laremy Tunsil and the Houston Texans?

This could signal that the Houston Texans may want to move on from Tunsil, as his contract takes a big chunk of the team’s cap space, and the team is heading into a rebuilding mode. However, Tunsil remains a good candidate for the Ogbuehi’s original team- the Bengals.

Tunsil would help anchor the line that let Joe Burrow be the most sacked-quarterback last season and net a great return for the Texans as they start the Lovie Smith era. Would Ogbuehi be better than Tunsil? Most likely not. It’s benefits of moving Tunsil that would have a bigger impact.

Another thing to think about is how the passing game may not be helping Davis Mills. Sure, Mills has a great deep game. But his receivers lack the yards after catch (YAC) ability, and it’s not like last year’s scheme was a quick passing offense. We’ll see how Pep Hamilton changes that going forward.
