OL Brett Helms – Not too much is known about Helms. He will be an prototypical player to be molded into a zone blocking C/G.

OL Cole Pemberton – A player that has shown potential, but will need time to develop. Could be a good backup if he progresses.

LB Isaiah Greenhouse – Has done well in practice. Didn’t see too much playing time in the preseason, but did show solid potential.

S Torri Williams – A bigger safety with a good amount of potential. He could end up pushing Barber for a backup role in the future.

After just a couple days following his release from the team that drafted him, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart has signed a 1-year contract with the Houston Texans. The former Heisman trophy winner from USC was drafted 10th overall in the 2006 NFL draft, but never lived up to his expectations. After being replaced by Derek Anderson as the starting quarterback this preseason, Leinart became frustrated which led to his release from the team.

With the signing of Leinart, it places 3 quarterbacks on the Texans active roster, just like last season. And for the second season in a row, this shows that the Texans don’t have much faith that Orlovsky could get the job done if Schaub were to go down. With Leinart being a project player for Kubiak, if some progression can be make with him, then Orlovsky could see his role with the team disappear permanently. With all the money being invested in Orlovsky as the backup quarterback, it is almost for sure at this point that this could indeed be his final season with the team considering his current ability.

I wasn’t a big fan of the signing, though. Leinard is a bit hot headed, and hasn’t appeared to have been a good leader. That’s also leaving out his poor down field passing and bad timing. As I said, Leinart will be a project player for Kubiak, and if it works out, then he could have a long term job as the backup in Houston if he wishes to stay. Right now, however, Orlovsky is the backup and that’s a problem. At least now there’s something possibly being worked out behind him.

In early August, there were reports that former Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel could be signing with the Houston Texans. With his family living just an hour away from Houston essentially makes the Texans his home town team. For this reason and the fact that being closer to his family was important, many speculated that Schobel could be making a move to finish his playing career with the Texans.

Though nearly two weeks later, it was announced that Aaron Schobel would not be signing with the team and he would opt to retire. It was a move that surprised quite a few people, including me. After posted 10 sacks just a season ago, it was hard to believe that a player of his caliber would retire so suddenly and leave so much behind. He would have spent his entire career in Buffalo, failing to have a single playoff appearance with the team in that span.

Now the 33-year-old could be reconsidering his decision. In a very Favre like style, Schobel appears poised to return to the NFL in one last stand with the Texans. This past weekend, there were reports that Schobel was reconsidering his decision to retire and could be making a return to the NFL very soon.

The biggest news so far are reports just coming across very early this Monday morning. According to a very trustful source, Aaron Schobel has agreed to join the team and will be in Houston on Monday to sign his contract. According to the source, the Texans have had an offer on the table for some time now, and now Schobel appears to have enough interest in joining the team.

If this is true, and not just another parade to be burned down at the best part, then this could really help the Texans. After finishing relatively low in sack totals last season, the Texans defense could use a veteran of Schobel’s caliber to help boost their production. With Mario Williams, Antonio Smith, Connor Barwin, and Aaron Schobel all at the defensive end position, it could be the deepest and most talented position of its kind in the entire league.
