3 reasons why the Texans need to trade Johnathan Joseph
It’s time for the Houston Texans to unload Johnathan Joseph and his contract.
Cornerback Johnathan Joseph is one player the Texans should think about trading once the new NFL league year starts on March 9th.
Joseph is still a good player, but is on a decline is no longer worth keeping.
I’ve come up with three reasons the Texans need to trade Joseph.
Joseph is past his prime
Joseph can still play at a high level, but it’s no longer worth it for the Texans to keep him now that he’s turning 33 years-old in April.
Joseph was the 46th ranked cornerback in the NFL last season, according to Pro Football Focus. He had an overall rating of 75.8. He was average against the pass with a rating of 75.1 and against the run with a 79.6.
With good cornerbacks being at a premium in the NFL, Houston shouldn’t have a problem trading Joseph.

Re-sign A.J. Bouye
The Texans priority this offseason has to be re-signing A.J. Bouye. Trading Joseph would free up $6.9 million in cap space and would make it a lot easier to keep a 25 year old cornerback over one that’s about to turn 33.
Another thing is that Joseph is in the final year of his contract. Is he really going to be worth re-signing next year at the age of 34? Let me answer that, no he won’t.
Sign DeAndre hopkins to an extension
The Texans have made it clear they want to sign star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a new contract, since his current deal runs out after next season. Just like with Bouye, if Houston unloads Joseph’s contract it will give them more wiggle room to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
