Last week three writers picked the Texans to open the season triumphantly over the Chicago Bears, and were all successful. How do we think the Texans will do this week against a tougher opponent in the Kansas City Chiefs?

Game: Chiefs at Texans

Outlook: Last week the Texans started slow before taking control against the Bears in the second half en route to a week one win. But this week features a tougher challenge as the Texans take on the Chiefs at NRG Stadium for the third time in their last 19 games (excluding preseason).

After the beating the Chiefs laid on the Texans in the Wild Card round last year, there will be a sense of payback lingering over this game. But some pieces have shifted, namely Brian Hoyer, who was a turnover machine against the Chiefs last season.

Both of these teams are going to lean on the running game, because both have strong running games and suspect running defenses. The Chargers ran for 155 on the Chiefs last week and the Texans will be missing Brian Cushing, one of the top run defenders. It will come down to which team makes the big plays–on offense and the crucial stops on defense.

Initially I had the Chiefs winning this game, but seeing them get run on by the Chargers the way they did makes me think otherwise. They won’t be able to comeback down big in this one. The third time will be the charm for the Texans.

Outlook: The Texans are looking for some revenge here. They were embarrased in the season opener by the Chiefs and then made a mockery of by the same team in the playoffs.

That 30-0 spanking led to some big changes for Houston. The biggest of those being new quarterback Brock Osweiler. He didn’t disappoint in Week 1 as he tossed two touchdowns in his Texans debut making him 6-2 for his career as a starter now.

The Chiefs are a tougher opponent than the Bears, who the Texans beat last week. They will also be without Brian Cushing. Still, Jadeveon Clowney is coming into his own and Whitney Mercilus and John Simon have brought the heat on opposing QBs.

Houston will get plenth of pressure on Alex Smith and their new running back, Lamar Miller will be a difference maker on offense as they hold off the talented Chiefs at home.

Outlook: Revenge games often make great games in the NFL, and the Texans will be looking for some against Kansas City, which shut out Houston in last year’s Wild Card playoff game.

No Brian Hoyer to throw all kinds of interceptions this time, but Brock Osweiler will be tested by a good Chiefs secondary that can change the game. But with KC’s best pass rusher in Tamba Hali out, Osweiler could have more time to go down the field.

J.J. Watt should be more active than he was last week, and he will have to be since Cushing is out. But the biggest key should be how the secondary covered tight end Travis Kelce, who hurt Houston in last year’s regular season game. I think the Texans have another big day by Will Fuller and the defense finds a way to keep the Chief offense befuddled.

Prediction: Texans 28, Chiefs 24
