The Houston Texans have made 18 more cuts as they got their roster down to 53, of course things could still change as more players come available via other NFL team cuts

The Houston Texans made 18 cuts on Saturday as they got their team down to 53 players ahead of the deadline. As always, there were some surprises in the final cuts.

Here is a list of players that were waived, courtesy of the teams official web page;

Jeff Adams, Tackle/Guard

Karim Barton, Guard

Quenton Bundrage, Wide Receiver

More from Toro Times

Reshard Cliett, Inside Linebacker

Anthony Denham, Tight End

Brandon Dunn, Defensive Tackle

Kenny Hilliard, Running Back

Akeem Hunt, Running Back

Ufomba Kamalu, Defensive End

Eric Lee, Outside Linebacker

Andrew McDonald, Tackle

Terrance Mitchell, Cornerback

Robert Nelson, Cornerback

Dan Pettinato, Defensive End

Shakeel Rashad, Inside Linebacker

Chad Slade, Guard

Eric Tomlinson, Tight End

Wendall Williams, Wide Receiver

Antonio Allen, Safety

Cecil Shorts III, Wide Receiver

The Texans waived/injured the following two players from the active roster:

Dalton Freeman, Center

Tony Washington Jr., Outside Linebacker

The most surprising name on the list was receiver Cecil Shorts, who caught 42 passes for 484 yards and two touchdowns last season. The former Jacksonville Jaguar spent just one year in Houston and was the most experienced player on the receiving corps.

Houston elected to go with youth here by keeping DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Braxton Miller, Jaelen Strong and Keith Mumphery at the position.

Antonio Allen being cut in favor of Corey Moore was another youth move. The 27-year old Allen had a chance to win a starting spot, but was beat out by Quintin Demps. They elected not to have Allen stick around and help in a reserve role and kept Moore, the second year player who struggled at times on HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ a season ago.

They also activated tackle Duane Brown and defensive end J.J. Watt. Both were on the physically unable to perform list as they were recovering from lingering offseason injuries.
