John McClain and Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle both select Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman for the Houston Texans in their mock draft 4.0

Two of the most in-the-know media members when it comes to the Houston Texans are John McClain and Aaron Wilson, of the Houston Chronicle. McClain especially has been breaking big Texans news for years, so when these guys do their mock drafts it’s worth noticing.

On Monday, the two veteran Chronicle writers released version 4.0 of their first round NFL mock draft, where each writer gave their pick for all 31 picks (the New England Patriots were stripped of their selection) in the first round.

For the most part, each pick had a different selection by both McClain and Wilson, except for a few teams. One of the teams they agreed on was the Houston Texans.

Both McClain and Wilson chose Baylor wide out Corey Coleman as the Texans choice when they’re on the clock with the 22nd overall selection.

Coleman is slightly undersized for a receiver at 5-foot-11, but his talent jumps off the charts. The 190-pound wide out is lightning fast, as evidenced by his 4.37 40-yard dash at his pro day. He also is quite the playmaker.

In three seasons at Baylor, Coleman racked up 173 receptions for 3,009 yards and 33 touchdowns. 20 of those touchdowns came during the 2015 season when Coleman was catching passes at an amazing rate.

The Texans went into the offseason with huge holes at running back and quarterback. However, they now have the luxury of taking the best player available thanks to landing running back Lamar Miller and quarterback Brock Osweiler in free agency.

Going for pure talent could pay off if the draft works the way Wilson and McClain see it going. Pairing Coleman with last season’s breakout receiver DeAndre Hopkins would give the Texans one of the most feared receiving duos in the entire NFL.
