The Houston Texans are hoping to add top free agent running back Lamar Miller

The Houston Texans are reportedly working to fill their void at running back. Their intended target is the prized runner in the 2016 free agency class, Lamar Miller.

According to NFL insider, Ian Rapoport, the team is making a strong push to land the free agent who has spent his entire career with the Miami Dolphins.

A fourth round pick out of Miami in 2012, Miller is till just 24-years old and also has less tread than the typical free agent running back as Miami never truly used him as an every-down back.

Still, the 5-foot-10, 225 pound Miller has been extremely productive despite the Dolphins reluctance to pound the ball with him. Miller has 2,930 and 19 touchdowns in his four seasons on just 638 carries. His career average is a respectable 4.6 yards per carry.

Miller also has 887 yards receiving on 117 receptions and another three touchdowns through the air. 47 of those receptions and two of his receiving scores came this past season for the Dolphins.

The Texans are reportedly trying to get the young running back to agree to a deal in advance of the official opening of free agency, which is Wednesday. Currently teams can negotiate with players, but no formal contracts can be signed just yet.
