A Q&A with Matt Verderame of the Arrowhead Addict just before the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs face off in the NFL Playoffs

The Houston Texans host the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday in the first round of the AFC Playoffs, and in advance of the big game, we were able to discuss the game with Matt Vederame the editor of the Arrowhead Addict, the FanSided page dedicated to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here is Matt’s take on the upcoming game;

RG: The Chiefs took it to the Texans the first game of the season and won much easier than the score indicated. After that showing would you have predicted the two teams would meet in the first round of the playoffs?

More from Toro Times

MV: I have to be honest, I’m surprised Houston made the playoffs after that game. Still, I have ample respect for the Texans. The defense is very solid and DeAndre Hopkins is ridiculous.

RG: Looking at the Texans, what it the one are that should worry Kansas City?

MV: The pass rush. J.J. Watt is great, but people forget about Whitney Mercilus. He had 12 sacks and can really play. The Chiefs have been much better in pass protection lately, but that is still a challenge.

RG: As for the Chiefs, who is the most important player that Houston has to worry about?

MV: Tamba Hali. He’s been terrific at generating pressure all season and going against Chris Clark is a huge mismatch.

RG: This may sound like a no-brainer, but worth asking, which quarterback inspires more faith that they can make a playoff run? Brian Hoyer (and his zero playoff starts) or Alex Smith (who has been to the NFC title game)?

MV: Alex Smith is the better player. Brian Houer is underrated, but so is Smith. His scrambling ability is insanely overlooked.

RG: Finally what is your prediction for the game and why?

MV: I’ll take the Chiefs 20-10. I just don’t think Houston can score on this defense.

A big shout out to Matt and his guys at Arrowhead Addict for the great work they do. For a take on the game from their perspective, head on over and check them out!
