Houston Texans Get Three More Draft Picks

On Monday, the NFL announced which teams would receive compensatory picks in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft. And the Houston Texans were awarded three extra selections.

The Texans will receive an extra 5th round selection (174th overall), and two extra 6th round selections. (211th and 216th overall) Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

These selections are awarded by the league based on players that each franchise has lost or signed to free agency the year prior. The NFL uses a formula that takes into account player salary, playing time and postseason honors. But not every free agent lost or signed by a team results in compensatory selections.

Last season, the Texans signed safety Kendrick Lewis. But Houston also lost running back Ben Tate, linebacker Joe Mays, defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, defensive tackle Antonio Smith.
