Houston Texans Positional Breakdown: Running Backs

facebooktwitterreddit

One of the strongest areas on the Houston Texans roster in 2014 was at the running back position. With a bonafide superstar touting the rock, the Texans’ offense was able to generate nine wins without a franchise quarterback in place. But will that be the case in 2015?

Before looking forward, let’s look back at the Houston Texans position of running back in this positional breakdown of their depth chart.

2014 Roster: Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, Ben Malena

2015 Free Agents: None

Draft Priority: Medium

2014 Season Review: Houston Texans’ running back Arian Foster returned to form in 2014 after spending half of the prior season injured. Foster recorded 1,248 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns in 13 games while earning his fourth Pro Bowl invitation.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of LSU, Alfred Blue started in three games including an impressive 156 yard performance in a 23-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Positional Outlook: Foster, who will turn 29 years old in August, will have his minutes managed going forward. Which means the Texans will need to get him a proper back-up. Despite Blue’s 528 rushing yards last season, it doesn’t seem his the answer.

Therefore, the Texans will have to look via free agency or the NFL Draft to find Foster a proper running mate. If Jonathan Grimes continues to develop, he has a shot of leapfrogging Blue on the depth chart as well.

But here’s the real question: Will Alfred Blue be Arian Foster’s primary back-up in Week One? Submit your answer in the poll below and feel free to explain your choice in our comment section.
