Welcome back Zach Diles to the Houston Texans. The Texans signed their former 2007, 7th round draft pick out of Kansas State. Diles played for the Texans 2007-2011 when he started a journeyman’s trip with stops in St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, Tennessee twice, Kansas City, Cleveland and now back to Houston. To make room for him the Texans released corner back Elbert Mack. This move was done to bolster a banged up line backer corp. The Texans also signed running back Ben Malena, a rookie from Texas A&M.

The linebackers down at the moment are Clowney, Cushing, Reed and Tarpinian. While none of them are on IR, each player is dealing with various issues and the defense could use more able bodies. Romeo Crennel’s defense relies on the linebackers as a key part of the pass rush. Having players able to come in and make an impact or relieve a starter, especially against the Eagles is very important. Hopefully Diles will be able to meaningfully contribute Sunday afternoon. In other Texans related news, the St. Louis Rams released former Texans quarterback Case Keenum. Keenum started 8 games for the Texans last season but was released prior to the start of the 2014 season to make room for Ryan Mallett who was traded from the New England Patriots.
