Texans preparing for the Steelers
Bill O’Brien had this to say when asked if J.J. Watt might get some carries as a running back: “Running back? You never know. You just never know. We have a 46-man roster. You might see Arian Foster at safety. You might see J.J. Watt at running back. You may see Andre Johnson at linebacker. You never know. You’re just trying to make the most of your 46-man roster.” I’d pay good money to see J.J. Watt come barreling out of the backfield. 1st and 10 on the 20 yard line after a kick off. Talk about a man up moment for the opposing defense. Of course, he’d make a great bait runner for a play action play as well. That’s one thing we’ve not see this year, someone try to actually tackle Watt.

On a more serious note, Coach O’Brien also discussed what it will take for Jadeveon Clowney to return for Monday Night Football. “That would be between me and him.” The fans want to see it, Clowney has made it clear he really wants to get out there. The prospect of Clowney taking the field was brought up to J.J. Watt. “Obviously we’d love to have all of our players out there and healthy and ready to go, but we’ll see.” This is one of the reasons we love the Texans. No egos, no chest pounding drama. These guys are having fun, but are serious about getting the job done. Watt’s answer might have been generalities, but the point is clear. The Texans are more then the individuals playing. That’s something Bill O’Brien has brought to this team. He really stresses practices, calling this week “I thought it was good.” They’ve had a week to clean up their weak areas, Monday Night can’t get here fast enough.

The other area that got a lot of discussion was the tight ends, more specifically the lack of use of the TE’s as receivers. Quarterback coach George Godsey’s answer was muddled. “I think that we go through the practice each week, we have our plays designed for each unit and ultimately it is about getting to those plays. It all comes down to the same thing is really starting the game in phase, fluidly how we want to play the game and eventually we’ll come around to those plays.” Again the lack of performance from the TE’s, is it the quarterback trust, the game plan or the players skills? Only time will tell in the end.
