Thursday the Houston Texans added some depth at the nose tackle position in signing David Hunter.
The Texans have a need at NT right now since Louis Nix III was placed on the Active/PUP list this week. Nix was a third round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft from Notre Dame.
Back to Hunter … the official Texans web site reported this is the third consecutive training camp Hunter will spend with the Texans, as he was previously with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In the article by the official Texans site it states:
“The Texans first signed Hunter as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2012. The University of Houston product then made his way from the Texans practice squad to the 53-man roster on October 16 (of 2012).”
Hunter was eventually released by the Texans last summer with roster limits.
I don’t know what Hunter will really bring to the Texans, but the Texans need Nix on the field as camp is about to begin. Nix is listed at 6-2, 331 pounds.
If Nix is able to perform on the field this season, he could be a big help for the Texans to improve a lackluster defense from 2013. If not, we’ll see what the Texans have in Hunter and others at the position.
What are your thoughts on the signing of Hunter and Nix being on the PUP list?
