Here is a fun way to look at the Houston Texans on this Thursday afternoon … by playing the “What If?” game. Today’s version of this game comes from an ESPN.com article with it asking, “What if the Texans took Blake Bortles?”

It is a very good question, especially since the Texans waited until the fourth round to select a quarterback, that being Tom Savage of Pittsburgh.

Now if the Texans did select Bortles, they wouldn’t have had been able to draft defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and possess possibly the most improved defense once we are done with the 2014 season.

In this ESPN.com article, it states the following on the “What If?” question:

"“That would have significantly impacted the AFC South … It might not have altered the rest of the Texans’ draft plans.”"

I believe the Texans made the right decision for this year. Sure, they are not the best at QB, but there is always the 2015 NFL Draft to get that coveted “franchise QB.”

They just have to make it through this season, and if they feel none of their young QBs are progressing enough, then take a QB next year. The potential of their defense in ’14 with Clowney and J.J. Watt is too much to pass up, and I believe it was the right decision.

Thoughts?

In other Texans news:

• Here is an ESPN.com article on Xavier Su’a-Filo.

• The Houston Chronicle wrote about how Arian Foster is “eager” to get 2014 started.

• Andre Johnson is “unlikely” to be at mandatory OTAs according to an NFL.com article.
