Would Santonio Holmes, Houston Texans be a good fit?

The New York Jets released wide receiver Santonio Holmes on Monday, and with the Houston Texans a bit thin at the position following the top two spots, the question is would Holmes be a good fit for the Texans in 2014?

Pro Football Talk said the Jets released a statement on Holmes with head coach Rex Ryan saying:

“I’ve always admired his knack for making the clutch play. He’s a tremendous competitor who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line.”

Besides having Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins on the offense, the Texans really don’t have that many “playmakers” on their roster.

Now the question is could the Texans afford him or would they even be interested in signing the free agent wide receiver?

Holmes is 30 years old, and I believe he could be a nice fit with Hopkins and Johnson as he wouldn’t have to be “the man” in Houston, and he wouldn’t get the No. 1 or even No. 2 coverage by the opposing defense.

It is just an idea, but one that could maybe work for the Texans, because I believe they need some more weapons at wide receiver in 2014 to be better than the 2-14 team they were this past season.
