The NFL has announced their players of the month for September, and one Houston Texan made the list as DeAndre Hopkins was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month.
Hopkins has become the No. 2 option the Texans have been searching for to play opposite of Andre Johnson for quite some time.
In his first four games in his rookie season, Hopkins has 20 receptions for 270 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown was a game-winning score in overtime during week two against the Tennessee Titans.
Hopkins is averaging 13.5 yards per catch this season as the Texans are 2-2 overall.
Drafted No. 27 overall in the first round of April’s NFL Draft out of Clemson, Hopkins has one 100-yard plus receiving game, coming against the Titans where he totaled 117 yards and one touchdown on seven receptions.
In his NFL debut Hopkins totaled five receptions for 66 yards, and in week three against the Baltimore Ravens he had six catches for 60 yards. Last week, against the Seattle Seahawks, he was held to two catches for 27 yards.
The Defensive Rookie of the Month was Kiko Alonso of the Buffalo Bills. The AFC Player of the Month was Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
