Texans’ Connor Barwin Close to Deal with Philadelphia Eagles

Free agent linebacker Connor Barwin is probably wishing he agreed to an extension with the Houston Texans last year to remain with the team.

Now, Jason La Canfora reports via Twitter that the Philadelphia Eagles are closing in on a deal.

The Eagles began talking with Barwin yesterday, and look to be very interested. Barwin’s initial plan was to wait until Paul Kruger and Cliff Avril signed new deals with their respective teams (Browns, Seahawks) to gain an outlook on his own market in free agency. As it stands, Barwin is probably one of the best pass rushers remaining on the market – but he’s set to earn less money in Philadelphia.

Like I said yesterday, Barwin would slide in easily with Chip Kelly’s new 3-4 scheme. Teaming him up with fellow linebacker Jason Philips is also a nice prospect if you’re an Eagles fan, especially if Barwin can come close to his 11.5 sack tally he recorded in 2011.
