HOUSTON — Trindon Holliday thought about trying out for the U.S. Olympic track team this summer. He quickly dismissed that notion because the London Games overlapped with the start of Houston Texans [team stats] training camp and Holliday would much rather make this team.

After watching outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus make an outstanding debut in the 26-13 preseason victory at Carolina, Texans general manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak must have felt like they hit the lottery with their first-round draft choice.
There aren’t a lot of questions with Houston’s roster. The Texans still need to figure out the pecking order at wide receiver, and the field goal kicking battle figures to rage on.
At just 5’5, Trindon Holliday hasn’t had the impact at the wide receiver position in his career and training camp to make him a lock for the Texans roster. Instead, Holliday will have to rely on his ability as a returner to earn a spot, and he got out to a good start with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first preseason game of the year.
