Backup Houston Texans offensive lineman Derek Newton was slow getting up during a drill in Wednesday’s practice, but when he heard about Duane Brown was taken off the field due to an injury he knew at that point he needed to prove himself:
“There are a lot more eyes looking at you now and that’s fine,” Cushing said. “I learned from some of the best guys and they taught me a lot. It’s something I accept and going into this year I could say it was pushed on me, but it was also earned. So I feel good about it.”
Texans fans took another deep breath when the news surfaced Wednesday of Duane Brown’s lower leg injury at training camp. Brown bruised what appeared to be his ankle in the morning session of Wednesday’s practice.
