Houston’s young receivers will be a storyline throughout the preseason. The spots on the depth chart after starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter are up for grabs, and with Johnson out at least a week with a groin injury, guys are getting significant opportunity.

With Andre Johnson sidelined with a groin injury, wide receiver Lestar Jean has been getting first team reps opposite Kevin Walter. Johnson’s injury also means more reps for rookies DeVier Posey, Keshawn Martin and Jerrell Jackson.

Today was the first day of camp that the kickers kicked in front of the team, fans and media. Both Randy Bullock and Shayne Graham were making their kicks. They didn’t do any particularly long kicks, but most of their kicks went over the net into the Teal lot where media/VIPs park. (I didn’t hear any cars getting hit).

The second-year Texans linebacker admits he looks at lots of tape of Ware, who was the best linebacker Reggie Herring coached with the Dallas Cowboys – and one of the best in the NFL. Reed figured if he can do anything close to what Ware did for Herring, he’ll make his coach very happy.

The Texans made the playoffs without Schaub, but know they need their leader if they’re going to take that next step toward success.
