Former New York Jets Director of Player Administration and current CNNSI contributor Pat Kirwan recently visited Texans camp in Houston. Kirwan writes as a senior analyst for NFL.com along with hosting the Sirius XM NFL Radio show known as Movin’ the Chains. Kirwan posted an article on NFL.com on exactly what his feelings on the Texans this year.

One quick note of Kirwan’s is that Mario Williams is quickly eliminating doubts about switch to linebacker. Kirwan also goes on to issue a prediction that gets many a Texans fan excited. we can only hope that the prediction comes to pass.

“For the past three seasons, the prediction was it’s the year Houston goes to the playoffs. Of course, it never happened. This year, there is a lot less talking and a lot less media attention, both good things. The Texans are more concerned about getting the job done than talking about it. They have the talent to win 10 games, but depth could be an issue if injuries occur. The offense will score and the defense will be better, but how much? There’s a realistic chance the Texans will be a wild-card team this year.”

Besides Kirwan’s prediction there was a reiteration of Mario Williams and his true defensive end position. During a recent trainig camp interview Kirwan talks up the fact that many of the Texans teammates don’t view Williams as a linebacker at all in the new 3-4 defense. In fact Mario Williams will be rushing the quarterback more often than not and therefore is still viewed as a rush defensive end. Linebacker is merely the formal name of the position in which Williams will line up at during Texans defensive stands.
