It’s Official – Wade Phillips New Texans Defensive Coordinator

The Texans announced on Wednesday that Wade Phillips would become the Texans next defensive coordinator.

After speculation yesterday that Wade Phillips would accept the job to become the Texans next defensive coordinator, the Texans officially announced that it would happen.

Also announced was that the Texans would convert from a 4-3 defensive scheme to a 3-4 scheme. This was expected even considering that Phillips has coached a 4-3 defense in the past.

I like this move. Enough with the first time defensive coordinators. Kubiak isn’t a defensive guru, so he’s not there to pick up his coach when he makes rookie mistakes. Phillips was one of the most experienced defensive coaches available for the job, and he just happened to have tons of defensive coordinator experience. I also like that the Texans got this done quickly so that they can start working on fixing the defense right away.
